Hear former Grand Rapids City Commissioner Dave Shaffer’s inside take on what is planned for the future and what is needed to get us there!
Dave Shaffer was born in Grand Rapids, attended Grand Rapids Community College and earned his bachelor’s degree in public policy from Michigan State University. Dave works as a Commercial Banker for Macatawa Bank.
Prior to his election to the City Commission, Dave was active with West Grand Neighborhood Organization where he served as President. The City Commission appointed Dave to serve on the Zoning Board of Appeals and he was elected by his peers to serve as Chairperson.
Dave is passionate about helping build the character of youth in Grand Rapids and is involved as a volunteer with the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids and teaching kids the importance of saving and budgeting money at Sibley Elementary. With roots in community organizing, Dave is committed to help strengthen and revitalize our traditional neighborhoods and business districts.
Dave and his wife Carrie live on the north-west side of Grand Rapids and have four children.
