Design, Democracy, + Climate Change - A Workshop

This past April, famed guest lecturer David W Orr stated, “all design is political.” By not designing like there is a pending climate crisis we designers are making a statement in supporting the status quo, and this has significant political implications.

As a follow-up to Orr’s inspirational lecture, this work session will re-introduce the concepts explored this past spring and, using the World Cafe framework, AIA GR COTE will invite the West Michigan community to explore what this sentiment means to our design community, build consensus on strategies that move our community towards a resilient future, define how our actions as designers affect our democracy, and prepare our region for the pending climate crisis.

This workshop will be facilitated by AIA GR COTE co-chairs, Matthew VanSweden of Catalyst Partners and Vince Novak of TSK Architects

Schedule:
Networking | 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Workshop | 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
